Pointless gender divide on nuts

I spotted these at my local grocery store yesterday and almost gagged. 

 

Apparently there is a mindful nut too (a woman meditating or doing yoga). I love pistachios, but won’t be buying any this year.

You would think my son was coming for a visit or something.

Actually he is coming, which is partly why I am on a bit of a decluttering binge. Tomorrow I need to wipe down every surface I can, and vacuum the basement again (the only area with a carpet), because he and his girlfriend are both allergic to cats.  I have discovered that one of the advantages of working from home is that I can do a lot of conference calls while cleaning up stuff. I just put myself on mute. Today I emptied out two drawers of my filing cabinet and now have space for actual office stuff. I even sorted all the gift bags and special occasion cards and put them neatly in a drawer. I may never need to buy another card as long as I live, even if I send out a lot more cards than I do most years. I have sorted all kinds of fabric and put it with patterns so I can actually sew stuff, instead of just hoarding fabric. Courage and Questioning

This morning’ sermon was on the story of Doubting Thomas, the gospel story told every year on the week after Easter. This year the sermon was given by Pamela Yarrow, a retired minister who is now part of our congregation. She often brings an interesting interpretation or perspective to her talks, and today was no different. She talked about Thomas as a man of courage. At a time when all the other disciples were in hiding because of the uproar following the disappearance of Jesus’ body from the tomb, Thomas was away from the house when Jesus first came to the disciples. We don’t know what Thomas was doing - buying food? checking to see whether it was safe for everyone to leave hiding? I had never thought to question why he wasn’t at home before. Thomas also showed courage by asking questions. Pamela acknowledged that we all have doubts about our own faith sometimes. Experimental cooking - pasta with creamy basil sauce

I have a game I play, dating back to when I was a busy younger mom with two incredibly busy kids who were also fussy eaters. I had developed a routine of quick and easy meals: tacos, pasta and meat sauce, Swedish meatballs, and stir fries were my go-tos, served every week, with a little variation in between. One year, my son started complaining about this, so I made a promise I would try one new thing, from a recipe book (or the internet), every week. For the first few months, he didn’t even notice, because I had to stick with familiar foods. After all, this was the kid who wouldn’t eat any meat except chicken or ground beef because if was too hard to chew. Even after he moved away for university, I kept up the habit.
